Ryan Shanahan


Ryan Shanahan is a movement specialist with a degree in Dance education and 12 years of professional teaching experience. His collegiate education in Kinesiology, choreography, and Ballroom dance allows him to offer a unique experience for students wanting to learn more about themselves and develop skill in dance and various other art forms.
Ryan is also a published author in the dance community. His first book title, “Lead and Follow, Life Lessons through Dancing,” is available online or on request. Ryan has served on the Board of directors of Colorado’s USA Dance, and also offers classes through the local community college.
Beyond teaching dance, Ryan is currently working as the owner and head coach of Mountain West Swords Academy, an Olympic style Fencing club that emphasizes instruction in the 3 Olympic blades, Foil, Epee, and Saber. Additionally the club also teaches stage combat, and various stiles of martial arts, and kinesthetic development, such as Tai Chi, tumbling, Jiu-Jitsu, and self defense.
For those taking dance lessons, Ryan has years of experience teaching all 19 competitive styles of ballroom dance within the four categories listed by the DVIDA dance syllabus: Standard, American Smooth, Latin, and American Rhythm. These styles include: Swing, Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Salsa, Cha Cha, Rumba, Two Step, and many more.
